Porsche Macan Turbo Electric First Drive: Redefining the Performance SUV

When Porsche announced that the second-generation Macan would abandon internal combustion entirely, purists took a collective gasp. Replacing an automaker's highest-volume cash cow with a pure battery-electric vehicle is a colossal gamble. But after throwing the new 2025 Porsche Macan Turbo Electric through the tight apexes outside Leipzig, any lingering skepticism evaporates into thin air.
Built on the brand-new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) co-developed with Audi, the electric Macan is not a converted gasoline crossover. It sits on a dedicated skateboard with a 100 kWh battery pack (95 kWh usable), operating on an advanced 800-volt electrical architecture.
The Numbers: Violent Acceleration Meets Clinical Control
In Macan Turbo guise, dual permanently excited synchronous motors deliver a standard 576 hp, jumping to a monstrous 630 hp and 1,130 Nm of torque during Launch Control. 0 to 100 km/h is dispatched in just 3.3 seconds—quicker than a previous-generation 911 GT3 RS.
“"The Macan Turbo EV accelerates with the kind of neck-snapping ferocity that recalibrates your internal organs, but the real triumph is how it sheds its 2,405 kg curb weight in the corners."”
Thanks to Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), two-valve adaptive air suspension (PASM), and up to 5 degrees of rear-axle steering, the Macan EV rotates around its center axis with shocking agility. There is virtually zero body roll, and the front-end grip inspires immediate confidence.
Charging & Real-World Range: 270 kW Peak Speeds
On the charging front, the 800-volt architecture allows the Macan EV to draw up to 270 kW from compatible DC fast chargers. In our real-world session:
- 10% to 80% SoC: Completed in just 21 minutes flat.
- Bank Charging Innovation: When connected to a 400V station, the battery automatically splits into two 400V packs charging in parallel at up to 135 kW without needing an inefficient voltage booster.
- WLTP Combined Range: 591 km (Macan Turbo) and up to 613 km (Macan 4).
Inside, the cabin features the Porsche Driver Experience with a 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster, 10.9-inch central infotainment screen, and an optional passenger display. Augmented reality head-up display projects turn-by-turn navigation arrows directly onto the asphalt.
The Autovaly Verdict
At €114,600 for the Turbo (and €84,100 for the entry Macan 4), the electric Macan is certainly premium. But it delivers sports-car dynamics, genuine SUV utility, and cutting-edge charging in a single cohesive package. Porsche has not just replaced the combustion Macan—they've built the finest electric compact SUV on sale today.
